Talk Mode

When you're in talk mode, Autolog allows your terminal or workstation to behave as if it were connected as a terminal on the remote system. You can "talk" to the remote computer: give it commands, run programs or applications on the remote system, and so on. What you type on your keyboard is sent to the remote computer. The remote system's responses are displayed on your monitor.

Before you've dialed and made a connection to the remote system, you can also enter talk mode and "talk" to your modem, to give it commands, change its settings, and so on.

From Autolog's command mode, you can enter talk mode by pressing the change key. You can also enter the command talk from command mode. You will also enter talk mode automatically when a dial command is answered by the remote modem (unless the dial command was executed from a script file).

When you first enter talk mode, you will see the message:

Entering TALK mode - press [change key] to return to command mode

The character currently assigned the change key function will be displayed instead of [change key]. You may also see a similar message on the bottom status line of your terminal while you are in talk mode.

To return to command mode from talk mode, press your change key.
