system

The system or ! command allows you to temporarily return to system or shell level to perform one or more  system-level commands or programs, such as editing or erasing files.

Enter the command:

system

to temporarily return to system or shell level to perform non-Autolog tasks, without disconnecting from your port or modem.

Note To exit the shell and resume your Autolog session, enter the appropriate command:

You can also use the command:

system command or program
or
! command or program

to perform one command or program at system level.

Note The system command may not use the same shell that you normally use. DOS and Windows systems will use COMMAND.COM, and UNIX systems will use the shell that the UNIX system() command uses.

Note The system command does not hang up the modem or disconnect from the communications port. Always re-enter Autolog at some point after temporarily exiting with the system command. Use the finish, quit, or chain command to permanently end your session and return to system or shell level.
